Classy Flooring ATL is a hardwood flooring company serving metro Atlanta and North Georgia. We install solid and engineered hardwood, herringbone, chevron and other custom patterns, and brass and metal inlay, and we refinish, restore and color match hardwood, pine and heart pine floors and stairs.

Classy Flooring ATL is led by Claudiu Toma, an NWFA Certified Installer, NWFA Certified Sand & Finisher and NWFA Certified Sales Advisor, who completed NWFA Precision Patterns: Parquet Flooring and NWFA Precision Patterns: Medallions. Every project is carried out by our in-house crew.

Every floor is evaluated in person before the work is scheduled: the subfloor and site conditions for an installation, the wood and its existing finish for a refinish. Installation, sanding and finishing follow the flooring, adhesive and finish manufacturers’ requirements, and NWFA guidelines where those instructions are silent.

Hardwood Floor Installation

Classy Flooring ATL installs unfinished solid hardwood floors across metro Atlanta and North Georgia, then sands them flat and finishes them in the home. Over plywood subfloors the floor is nailed down, with wide plank installed by nail-assisted glue-down; on concrete slabs it is glued down.

Hardwood floor installation starts with evaluating the subfloor, the site conditions, the layout, and the material before work begins.

Custom Pattern Installation

Classy Flooring ATL installs herringbone, chevron and parquet patterns, including Versailles panels built by hand in our shop, along with custom borders and medallions set into pattern work.

Herringbone is also fabricated in our shop from straight plank and installed on site.

Custom borders are joined to the field with a tongue-and-groove joint that mechanically locks the border to the field, so the two hold the same height and stay tight to each other as the floor expands and contracts.

Brass & Metal Inlay

Classy Flooring ATL routs solid brass and metal inlay into hardwood floors — feature strips, borders, thresholds, and inlay set into custom pattern work. On the Woodstock estate, 214 linear feet of solid brass was set into factory-prefinished, wire-brushed engineered white oak.

We specify solid C360 brass bar and request mill test reports certifying the alloy composition. Our preference is brass at the full thickness of the floor: the channel is routed through to the subfloor, and the subfloor sets the height of the metal. Where a design calls for a shallower bar, the channel is routed to the depth of the bar and held at that depth along the run.

The brass is bedded in the same flooring adhesive that holds the floor, so it moves as one system with the floor. Metal inlay can be set several ways; this is the approach Classy Flooring ATL uses for its long-term hold.

A solid brass bar is rigid, and it reports whatever the subfloor does, which is why the condition of the substrate is settled before the design is agreed.

Hardwood Floor Refinishing & Restoration

Classy Flooring ATL refinishes and restores hardwood floors across metro Atlanta and North Georgia, sanding worn, scratched or dull floors to bare wood and finishing them in a water-based system — Bona Traffic HD, LOBA 2K Duo, or Berger-Seidle AquaSeal CeramicStar.

All sanding is dustless: every machine runs connected to an FG Floortec dust-control vacuum with a DUSTIN separator, and the final passes run on our planetary sanders, the American Sanders Epoch and the FG Floortec Discus.

Color and finish are confirmed on your own floor, in your own light, before anything is committed.

Hardwood Floor Color Matching

Classy Flooring ATL brings a refinished or newly installed floor into agreement with an existing floor. Color can be matched in two places: in the wood, with stain or a reactive treatment, or in the finish, with pigment carried in a sealer or a tinted finish coat. Which applies depends on the species involved and on whether the existing floor can be sanded.

Where both floors can be taken to bare wood and finished together, they receive the same sealer and finish coats at the same time. Where the existing floor is staying untouched, it becomes the reference and the match is built on the new side, verified against it before any finish is committed. Candidate colors are applied directly to the client’s own floor and judged in that room’s light.

Rubio Monocoat Hardwax Oil Finishing

Classy Flooring ATL finishes hardwood floors with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, a plant-based, zero-VOC hardwax oil that colors and protects the wood in a single coat. It bonds with the top fibers of the wood and leaves a soft matte surface with the natural grain on full display, in 55 standard colors, including clear, with worn areas re-oiled and spot-repaired over the years.

Hardwax oil finishing depends on the sanding. We sand the floor to a final 120 grit with our planetary sanders, the American Sanders Epoch and the FG Floortec Discus, because a penetrating oil takes on the condition of the wood beneath it. Every machine runs connected to an FG Floortec dust-control vacuum with a DUSTIN separator.

Engineered & Prefinished Flooring Installation

Classy Flooring ATL installs engineered and prefinished hardwood over concrete slabs and plywood subfloors — glued down, nailed down or floated, following the flooring manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Before an installation is scheduled, the subfloor is tested for moisture, and its flatness is read against NWFA’s tolerance for the installation method, or the flooring manufacturer’s figure where it publishes its own.

Condo & High-Rise Hardwood Floor Installation

For projects of 1,000 sq ft and up, installation starts at $3.50 per square foot for solid hardwood and $4.00 per square foot for engineered and prefinished hardwood; smaller projects are priced by the job. The acoustic underlayment the building requires is priced as its own line.

Classy Flooring ATL installs hardwood floors in condominiums and high-rise buildings in Atlanta. We remove the existing floor down to the concrete slab, prepare the slab, install the acoustic underlayment the building’s HOA has approved, and glue solid, engineered or custom pattern floors over it, working within each building’s rules for elevators, work hours and common areas.

We prepare the HOA approval package: the building’s signed rules, the products we will install, with the acoustic underlayment’s data sheet and the manufacturer’s acoustic test data, and a written scope of work. The HOA approves the products before anything is installed. The building’s requirements, from freight elevator time to corridor protection and work hours, are included in the installation price.

Pine and Heart Pine Floor Refinishing and Restoration

Classy Flooring ATL refinishes and restores pine and heart pine floors across metro Atlanta and North Georgia, including old floors that have been sanded before and reclaimed heart pine. All sanding is dustless: every machine runs connected to an FG Floortec dust-control vacuum with a DUSTIN separator.

Pine takes stain differently from oak, so we apply a dewaxed shellac wash coat before any color to keep it even across the boards. We stabilize splintered board edges and finish in LOBA 2K Duo or Berger-Seidle AquaSeal CeramicStar in satin. Where a floor has wide gaps and the client wants them closed, we fill them with an elastic trowel filler that moves with the floor through the seasons — quoted separately from the refinishing.

Stair Refinishing & Tread Upgrades

Classy Flooring ATL refinishes stairs, replaces treads and updates risers, and matches stair finishes to the floor, including prefinished and engineered flooring. Whether we are refinishing existing wood or installing new treads, the work depends on the fit of the parts and the stair-to-floor transition.

In Hoschton, the treads and risers were refinished with Bona NordicSeal and Bona Traffic HD to match the main floor. In the Atlanta red oak project, 30 treads, including the basement flight, were finished with the floors in Bona NaturalSeal and Bona Traffic HD.

Subfloor Preparation for Hardwood Installation

Up to $4.00 / sq ft

Subfloor correction is priced according to the condition of the subfloor; self-leveling compound, where the floor needs it, is $110 per bag, material and labor included. WAKOL PU 280 is $1.00 to $2.00 per square foot.

Classy Flooring ATL prepares concrete slabs and plywood subfloors for hardwood installation by measuring moisture and flatness, then correcting whatever falls outside the flooring and adhesive manufacturers’ requirements and the NWFA Installation Guidelines.

On concrete slabs, we grind high areas down, apply two coats of WAKOL PU 280 for moisture control and, where the slab needs it, fill low areas with self-leveling compound.

On plywood subfloors, we re-fasten panels that move or squeak, sand the seams flat and build up low spots with wood, then apply one coat of WAKOL PU 280 as a primer and moisture retarder.

Herringbone Fabricated from Prefinished Hardwood Flooring

Classy Flooring ATL fabricates herringbone from the hardwood flooring a homeowner has chosen, or already has in the rest of the house, when that flooring is sold only as straight planks, and installs it across metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Each piece is cut in our shop to the size the pattern needs, and its cut edges are given a new tongue and groove and a recreated factory bevel, matching the profile of the boards it was cut from.

We fabricate herringbone from solid and prefinished engineered hardwood as part of the floors we install. The flooring has to be tongue-and-groove and at least 1/2 inch thick, and engineered flooring needs a wear layer of 3 mm or more. The 130-square-foot Dunwoody entrance took one day in the shop and one day on site.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Installation

Classy Flooring ATL installs luxury vinyl plank (LVP) exactly as the flooring manufacturer requires, including in basements and over concrete slabs.

Before installation, the subfloor’s flatness is checked against the LVP manufacturer’s tolerance and corrected where it falls outside it, and moisture conditions are assessed in basements, on concrete slabs and in other moisture-sensitive areas. Moisture protection is installed as the manufacturer specifies.
